Shapco Printing is an active contributor to Children's Cancer Society, Epilepsy Foundation and Minneapolis Chapter for the Alzheimer's Association.
Recycles - Does your organization recycle paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, batteries, electronics and fluorescent lights throughout the company, including public areas?
Shapco Printing received the Minnesota Green Printer Award due to we recycle all paper, makeready and paper edges from cutting, all our printing plates are aluminum and recycled, all batteries are used in lefts and recharged/recycled. All Light bulbs have been changed to longer lasting, energy saving through out the company.
Glass/Plastic and Paper recycling bins are through out the company as well.
Compost or Food-to-Farms - Does your organization compost its food and food related paper waste and/or does it participate in a food-to-farm program sending its food waste to farms?
Lighting - Does your organization use high-efficiency lighting approved by Energy Star such as, T8s, T5s, LEDs, CFLs (>75%)?
All lighting has been changed out to high-efficiency lighting through out the plant over a year ago.
Temperature - Does your organization manage temperature with an efficient programmable thermostat, adjust it to 68 degrees in the winter and 80 degrees in the summer, and reduce it to the greatest energy efficient setting possible during non-labor hours?
Yes, all parts of our building are humidity, air and heat controlled. Depending on the location all thermostats are programmed for that specific work area.
Hibernate Computers - Does your organization hibernate the computer monitors after 5 minutes without use and shut the computers down completely during non-work hours (with the exception of POS and/or unique computer systems that cannot or should not hibernate or shut down)?
Shapco Printing reminds all employees to shut down their computers at the end of the work day, during working hours all computers are set to hibernate their monitors every 5 minutes.
Energy Reduction - Does your organization incorporate specific practices and equipment to reduce energy usage and waste, e.g. grocery store installs doors on refrigerated areas, skylights installed for passive solar, paint rooftop white to reduce the air-conditioning usage, etc?
All loading dock doors and door ways into air conditioned areas are draped with clear draping to keep the heat out and the cool air in.
Our flat roof top is currently being considered for a grass top for natural insulation.
Conserves Water - Does your organization maintain plumbing to prevent leaks, drips and overall water waste? When replacements are necessary, do you install water conserving low-flow/high-pressure fixtures?
Shapco Printing has been in our building for over 30 years, we maintain all plumbing, piping and wiring.
Unwanted Mail - Has your organization removed their name from unwanted: mail, mailing lists, phone book distribution and unwanted catalogs?
Shapco Printing has a full Data Processing department that is certified to dedupe mail list, merge/purge files and eliminate all names and addresses that have requested not to receive this specific mailing.
Paper - Does your organization use post-consumer recycled paper throughout all office printers, fax machines & copiers?
as a printer we have lots of extra paper which we recycle internally for note pads.
Transportation - Does your organization promote the use of and/or offer incentives for employees and visitors to use low or no CO2 transportation?
Shapco Printing rewards the sales force for using gas efficient cars such as Hybrid cars. We also ask all couriers to utilize energy efficient vehicles.
Bottled Water - Does your organization offer and promote drinking water for employees and guests that is not packaged in plastic? If you do use plastic bottled water, do you promote recycling of all plastic bottles?
Shapco Printing supplies dishwasher safe cups for water that is dispensed from our Culligan pure water dispenser.
Buys Locally - Does your organization buy locally whenever possible (within a 100 mile radius)?
Yes, in all aspects from local paper merchants, coops for stocking our refrigerators and office supplies from local distributors.
Choose Green - Do you offer and/or buy organic, natural, sustainable, and/or renewable products and continue to look for ways to do so (> 20%)?
Paper can be purchased up to 100% PCW, we always suggest this.
Shapco Printing is also a Forest Stewartship Council (FSC) Printer
Green Energy - Does your organization incorporate the use of ultimate efficiency systems and/or alternative, renewable &/or sustainable energy resources e.g. solar, wind energy, geothermal temperature management, etc?
Shapco currently purchases wind credit for our electricity/power.

Yes, we are currently installing a new 6 color Komori Press and have reviewed our electrical and energy plan for more savings where ever we can.
